The title of this large painting may simply be a poetic phrase, or it may refer to the ‘song-symphony’ of the same name by Gustaf Mahler, composed during 1908-09 but not performed until 1911, after his death.  If this suggestion is the case, this is another of the works that explore the ‘Psycho-morphological implications in music’.
