L’HOMME APPROXIMATIF, c.1941
Watercolour and ink 16 x 12¼in. (41.3 x 31.6cm.)
Titled on the reverse.
Provenance
National Trust bequest.
The work is unframed and has probably never been exhibited.
The title refers to the volume of poetry of the same name, published by Tristan Tzara in 1931.
The style of the present work, with its bold washes and loose forms, is very similar to that of Communicating Vessels (1941). Both works bear the title of important surrealist writings.
