Literature
Ratcliffe (2007) col. pl. 40 illustrates this painting, but is erroneously captioned The Long Journey (1946). The painting is reproduced gain, correctly captioned, in b/w as pl. 72.
This work and Alcove (1946) are clearly the part and counterpart, or image and mirror image, that arise from the decalcomania process. The two year difference in date requires explanation. Perhaps the artist did not work up Alcove II until 1948, or perhaps she signed it then with a prospective sale in mind?
